It may be rainy outside...
But that doesn't mean that we can't have a picnic inside. Today is a good day to spread out blanky and have lunch picnic style. It's even better when Auntie joins in the fun.

The Simple Womans Daybook 25 June 2012
Outside my window...it is cool, 63, and the sun is trying valiantly to come out. After the heat and humidity of last week today is a welcome relief. The birds are singing and flying about as if they have work to catch up.
I am thinking...about staying on task. I used to be a very scheduled and goal oriented person. In an effort to focus more on my husband and family I tried for years to lighten up. Now I think I have swung too far in the other direction. I am currently attempting to find a middle ground.
I am thankful for...precious moments and the memories that come from them. We had a couple of hours with Savannah and Kim yesterday. The memories and pictures that we have left from that time I will hold forever.
From the kitchen....I don't know right now but I will come up with some clever alchemy that will result in nourishment for my family and satisfaction for myself.
I am wearing...green capris and a tan tee.
I am creating...home folks, home!!!
I am going...to work on my assignments until lunch. Later I have to take MK into the city for an interview. I don't know what she is going to do about driving when she finally gets a job. Well God will provide, He always does.
I am reading...still trying to finish that novel for school. I struggle with books that I have trouble following.
I am hoping...to get some creative time in this week. I really need to let off some steam.
I am hearing....Layn playing with his toys, the stereo playing a Martina MacBride song, MK doing some cleaning, and the birds singing outside my window.
Around the house...the Monday cleaning has been done, the laundry is going, and everyone is doing their own thing.
One of my favorite things...the sense that all is as it should be.
A few plans for the rest of the week....school, holy hour, pick-up my sewing machine from the repairman, create, let it all marinate and repeat.
Here is a picture thought that I am sharing with you...
Ian sitting reading Layn a story last night. These were some good memories for me when he was grwoing up. I am so glad that he is doing the same for Layn. This is what family is all about.

He's the man!
Off to Daly's to roll their lawn. No dust is settling on this guy.
Back home and taking a union sanctioned break.
What? I was just taking a break, really!
Okay mom, take a picture. Now let me be on my way.
Not fast enough. MK caught him and gave him more things to do. Matthew is the only unmarried guy I know who has a honey do list.
Another pigeon down, dozens more to go!
Boy is it hot today. Another union sanctioned break!
This guy works harder than six men twice his age! He can take all the breaks he wants. Later he will leave for work just to get some get away from all these females telling him what to do.
Guess what Layn is learning?
Let's look at the clues.
He's stylin' the outfit: training pants and a hat.
Did I mention that we have outdoor plumbing?
Anyone who guessed potty training gets the prize. An all expense paid trip to the outhouse!!! The jury is out about how well he is doing.

Good gifts
Some mothers get their kids dumb things like Ipods and four wheelers. Not this mom. Nope I get my kids things that they can really use. Things like bugs! That's right you read it here first. Today the praying mantis eggs that I ordered for Matthew came in the mail.
Just read that description. What could be more compelling or thrilling. He can put these two beauties out in his garden and gone are the days of picking potato bugs. No more cut worms on the cucerbits.
They may not be much to look at now but those to miracles are jam packed with insect fascination.
Not only that but when the males have done their part in the job of future procreation he can watch the females consume their mates. If that isn't the ideal form of population control I don't know what is.

The Simple Womans Daybook 18 June 2012
Outside my window...the sun is shining but Ian says there is no dew on the grass and in farmer language that is a bad thing. So he took the day off from work to rake and bale the hay that he has down.
I am thinking...about contentment and what the true meaning of the word is.
I am thankful for....that day spent yesterday enjoying my family and watching my children bless their father.
From the kitchen...there had better be a heap of cooking going on today. Saturday evening we resorted to take-out pizza 'cause it was late when the guys got done. Yesterday I took Doug out and everyone else ate the leftovers. That was a serious bit of poor planning.
I am wearing....boxers and an over-size tee shirt
I am creating....atmosphere, baby. Atmosphere!!!!
I am going...nowhere today. I am going to try to stay home and con my minions to run the one errand that needs to be run today. I am out of almond milk and desperately need some more!!!!
I am reading....Gratefulness, the Heart of Prayer. A really terrific read, something that has to be savored all along the way.
I am hoping...to do a little sewing today. I have a commission to start and it looks like a day for that.
I am hearing...the pump on the fish tank, birds outside gorging themselves at the feeders, Layn smacking his lips over his raisin bread toast, and the distant sound of another farmer's tractor working ground.
Around the house...I could say that the place is a disaster area but who cares? It really looks lived in. When I walk in the door the place wraps itself around me like a favorite blanket. That's what home is about.
One of my favorite things...listening to baby talk. I got an ear full yesterday between Layn and Savannah.
A few plans for the rest of the week....school, mass, mow the lawns, laundry, more school, sewing, living and otherwise being me. Sounds like a capitol idea!!!
Here is a picture thought that I am sharing with you...
Papa lovin' on his little Savannah yesterday. I think he enjoyed his day. Calls from his sons far away, cuddle time with his two grandbabies, the contentment of knowing that his children had included him in the masses that were said that day at church, and a family that loves and respects him. What a blessing to have such a father for my children.

Sometimes it is just too hot!
Sometimes there are days when a guy just cannot get enough to drink. Forget the glass just bring me the jug, grandma! It is too hot today.
And forget waiting to get to the house, I think I will just carry it around with me. That way I won't have to even get too thirsty. Sometimes even a little guy gets a man-size thirst. Especially on a day like today. On a day when there is hay to make and tractors to drive. It takes everything this little guy has to keep track of where all the principles are.
After all a guy has to know where his papa is working and what field his daddy is baling in.
But when it all gets too tough there is always the pool.
Everyone is always going to know where Layn is when it gets too hot.

One of these days....
I came out here tonight to sit and work on some research that I had to do and found this poor child with dreams of breaking out of this prison he's in.
I contemplated stopping his obvious plan to use his dump truck as a means of getting him over the gate. (you know the old "you're going to hurt yourself doing that" thing) But all I could hear in my head was my son the sergeant saying "Let him be a kid and get hurt." So I left him alone and just took pictures. (I know how weird is that)
That is one forlorn looking kid. Even my hard heart was a little bothered by his sad face, just a little.
Then he looked back. Ooops! busted. He stepped right out of that truck and parked it in the sandbox. I think he read my mind. Well, all I could think was, "He lived to climb another day!"
What is that girl up to?
Then it was the garage. No breath taking landscape or serene watercolor (not that I have a problem with the American Flag). I am thrilled that it was done in time for the commemoration of Flag Day.
Now it is the picnic table. I am not too sure what my expectations were this time but I know they didn't extend this far. I can say that the table fits in well with the overall feeling that MK has been trying to create in Layn's yard.
I can't wait to see what her next choice of victim medium will be.
Sometimes a picture truly does paint a thousand words
A few weeks ago I bought Layn an ant farm and yesterday the ants came in the mail. There was some question about whether I was being a bit premature about this particular activity. Maybe I should have waited until he was a bit older. I think this picture says otherwise. He likes his "bugs!"
Wonder how he will react when the preying mantis eggs I ordered hatch?

And then we party!!!!!!!!
After the celebration and witness for the Feast of Corpus Christi it was time to go home and have our own party. No kind of Catholic feast should go by without some kind of get together with food, family, friends and fun. After all that is what being Catholic is all about.
Even impromptu dance lessons will appear on the program if that is what you desire. A good time is to be had by all, we guarantee.
Matthew and Christi made the doughs for the pizzas and soon my kitchen began to look like a pizza parlor.
Keep the assembly line going here folks! There are going to be a lot of appetites here today. Matthew, Brett and Christi have done this pizza duty before and they have the whole thing down to a science.
Spread the sauce and the cheese and don't spare the laughs and good times. No dish tastes right unless it has first been seasoned with a good dose of family and fun.
Got some pies ready for the toppings. This is where the creativity comes into play.
STOP THE PRESSES!!!! How many more people are coming? No problem we've got that covered.
Top those pies and get them into the ovens we have more to make! There's going to be a crowd of hungry people here today.
More toppings, more doughs, that's ok it's how we do things. No one goes away hungry.
People here, there and everywhere eating, drinking and being merry!
Old and young alike no one gets turned away from the table in this restaurant.
Of course no celebration is complete unless we have the family treasure here along with us.
When the last pie comes out even the cooks get to sit down and eat.
Layn and his Auntie watching all of the goings on.
Today is a good day for making new friends.
and hanging out with an Uncle that you love.
Even the babies seem to know it is a day to be happy.
Did I mention that even the dogs get spoiled on a feast day?
Pull up a chair we will even give you a haircut if you say you need one.
Even impromptu dance lessons will appear on the program if that is what you desire. A good time is to be had by all, we guarantee.
This IS my body!
Yesterday was the blessed Feast of Corpus Christi. A day for celebration and witness to the world of the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament. It seemed that the Lord was pleased with our plans for his feast day for he sent a glorious day to spend showing the world our belief in and love for this sacrament of the love of Christ.
After the 11 O'clock mass everything was made ready. The candles were lit, the altar servers, cross bearer, thrufers, and the men who would bear the canopy lined up. Father reverently presented us Our Sacrificial Lord and the procession began to make it's way out of the church. The people fell in line behind the young girls of the Sodality and the whole group was followed up by our choir singing the praises of Our Eucharistic Lord. Up main street chanting the Litany of the Saints and praying the Holy Roasay of Our Lady we went bearing witness to those who drove by and those who took the time to pay attention. The solemnity of the group seemed to say over and over, "Jesus is here, truly and in the flesh!"
Then as we returned to the church and Our Blessed Lord was placed on the altar for us to adore the choir sang more hymns of praise for the Risen Lord.
We finished our celebration with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament and a final hymn in praise of Our God who blessed us with the Real Presence in the Blessed Sacrament.
How can anyone who witnessed such a joyful celebration of faith and belief in the Presence of Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament not be left with a blessing in their own hearts?
How to study on a day like today...
It is 93 in the shade today and the man who is renting land from us is plowing with his stinky old diesel tractor and stinking up our whole place. So I packed up my books and took myself over to a friend's house to study.
It is a real hardship to have to spend a day like today lounging by the pool while doing your studying. If it does get too hot I can take a dip anytime I like and then go back to my work.

Did I mention that there is plenty of ice and cold drinks so that no one is in danger of dehydration?
