Today Matthew was sworn into the United States Army. He is the fifth of my five sons to enter the armed forces. Talk about mixed emotions. My heart not only swells with pride and love for this son who is, with courage and reliance on the grace of God, approaching this next step into manhood, but also it aches to see him leave home knowing just what he is facing.
You will live in my prayers as you never have before. May the Lord hold you in the palm of his hand. May his Blessed Mother wrap her mantle lovingly around you and may St. Michael the Archangel guide you in your battle for heaven.
