A day spent with history

Today we went to a small place near here named Jonesborough. Purportedly it is the oldest town in Tennessee. Judging by the pamphlet and the buildings in town I would agree that it is quite an old place.
Since moving to this area I have been surprised daily with the quilt blocks that I see displayed on fences and buildings.
This little beauty was on the picket fence in front of a tiny cottage in Jonesborough.

This one, though faded, is featured on the side of the Jonesborough visitor’s center.

Another from the cottage picket fence.

These two were hung on the side of a delightful little surprise that we encountered while driving into town.
This little quilt shop is deceptively small and plain from the outside but a step inside the door opens up a wonderland of color. Quilts of every type and size hang on the walls and banisters of the stairs that rise to the second floor. Countless bolts of fabrics in every possible color are displayed throughout the store. We were also informed by the proprietress that they offer classes and retreats. I could have stayed in there feasting my eyes on the colors for the rest of the day. The final conclusion was that we, the adults, should return soon sans children.

Here is a third one from the cottage fence. The vibrancy of the colors make these relatively simple blocks stand out.
The more time that I spend exploring this area the more I am drawn in by the beauty and simplicity of the little towns and the countryside that surround them.

Oh! How neat! Love the simple colorful squares on the white. Thanks for sharing your day trip! I'll have to look the town up.
