The Simple Woman's Daybook 22 July 2013

Outside my window...there is a light rain falling.  This summer has been one of the strangest for us on record (at least on my record)  We started out with rain, unceasing rain.  So much so that there was widespread flooding and the accompanying damage and devastation that follows in its wake.  The relief that we were blessed with after all the rain was several weeks of hot and humid weather.  The heat and humidity brought with it, for the most part, a spell of dryness that is inevitably enough to make both the earth and the people feel like they are shriveling up.  Today's rain is a welcome change. (especially since I got all the lawns mowed this morning!)

I am thinking...about growing up and the changes that come with it.  My children have grown up and moved away.  I can't help but yearn to have them close again while I am so proud of their accomplishments.

I am thankful...for those same children who are all so loving and generous both with each other and the world that they encounter.

From the kitchen...there are plenty of weekend leftovers to tide us until tomorrow.

Around the house...all is peaceful and quiet.  Layn and his mama are napping, MK is folding laundry, and today there are no other little people around.

I am wearing... a loose brown jumper and flip flops.

I am going...to sit on the porch for the rest of the afternoon and read my new book.  There doesn't seem to be anything that is too pressing at the moment.

I am hearing...the sound of the rain on the trees out front, MK's bird in her cage singing to the wild birds that fly by, and the soft tunes that play in my mind as I work out what I want to do.

One of my favorite things...seeing, hearing, and smelling the world that I live in.

A few plans for the rest of the week...there are hours of adoration to be observed, appointments to be met, and family to love.  I feel that my week will be full to overflowing.

Here is a picture thought that I am sharing with you...
The newly engaged couple, my son Ryan and the lovely Kathleen.
